The automatic analysis of kinematic chains is today an important practical problem. The widespread use of CAD/CAM systems for mechanical design increases the potential utility of such an analysis procedure. In this paper, we describe a Mechanism Analysis Procedure (MAP) which should be of practical value in modern CAD/CAM computing environments which employ minicomputers, since it seeks to minimize the required computer storage for a problem of given size. Numerical results are given which compare MAP to DRAM, a very widely used program of similar capability.
