Abstract
In previous research, a new guardrail system, called the “Buffalo Rail”, was designed and successfully tested that incorporated wood posts. With the aid of nonlinear finite element analysis, a steel post Buffalo Rail system was designed and successfully redirected a heavy duty 3/4-ton pickup truck.
Although work remains on the Buffalo Rail, it clearly has shown potential to increase the safety performance of guardrail system throughout the world.
